Keep Andrew Jackson?

I believe that andrew jacksons is one of the best u.s leaders of all time. His rezimay is outstanding. Some refer to him as king andrew the first, Even though he may have committed a few counts of patronage he was still the best candidate for the job. His experience level in  politics is unmatched by any of the people he ran against and was the creator of the democratic party.

Jackson was very well liked among white men. He is said to be a man of the people But in reality treated a lot of people poorly. He was a strong supporter of slavery and treated the native americans very bad. A lot of his supporters were rich businessmen and lawyers much like himself. He also came across as a blue collar man, He would hold his press conferences in the kitchen.

Jackson was known for giving his supporters government jobs. He did this more than every president in history. It Became one of his trademarks. He claimed he was replacing aristocrats with “the common man”

Another Thing he is famous for is the trail of tears. He forced all native americans to leave the east and shipped them out to the west. He only allowed them to take the clothes they had on there backs. This made him very unpopular among native americans.

I do believe that andrew jackson was a great leader. Like any powerful man he has his goods and his bads. I believe that his goods strongly outweighed his bads. He had a very successful career in office and I don't think anyone Should be able to replace such an american icon on the twenty dollar bill

Revolutions of !830 and 1848

I don't necessarily agree with his statement for a few reasons. Fist reason is the revolts where not all complete statements. With over fifty countries involved it is hard to say which ones were more successful then.

The Deciembrist revolt was the topic i had. this revolution was very unsuccessful. The revolutionary's plan was quickly put to an end by tsar nicholas. He then killed some of them to make an example. I believe that some of the revolt were not completely failures. they go some of what they wanted but no revolt achieved there goals weather they were to become a democracy or to change leaders because the current one is to aggressive and rules in a very auto-cratic style. One revolution That was a complete failure was the deciembrist revolt that had taken place in Russia. The people wanted to remove their new leader(tsar Nicholas) from power. The wanted to put the past leaders brother into power because he was much more fair to the people. Tsar nicholas did not like the idea of this. He even killed some of the revolutionary's

During the polish revolution the polish people actually became self governed. They went a few months without the Russians. After two months the Russians regained power and took control of the revolutionary's. Although the polish didn't really accomplish anything in the long run they still managed to be on there own far a couple of months.

Finally there was the french revolution of 1848   "monarchy is falling; it is only necessary to push it; before the sun sets the republic will have triumphed" this is a quote from the primary reasorce It shows how desperate the revolting soldiers were. They were willing to die for their freedom. This shows you how bad a monarchy can be for the people of the country. Although it wasn't a complete they did accomplish shedding french blood in the name of freedom

class activity on scialism and communism

On Friday  in class we did an activity to symbolize capitalism and socialism. The first part of the activity was to show us how capitalism works. Ms Gleason gave some kids three kisses and some kids two. Sam and i were given ten kisses to symbolize three social classes. we then began playing rock paper scissors shoot. If you lost you had to give the person who won one of your Hershey kisses. Because people started with less then me i had many chances to play. in the end i gained 4 kisses after going 6 and 2. This activity showed us what it was like to live in a capitalist economy. The second round she gave everyone the same amount of kisses 3 each. This showed us what socialism was like because we were forced to trade.  I found the activity very fun but I think that is because I am a competitive person.

When people here the words communism and socialism they think negative. Marx's  ideas were meant to be just ways to manage a country's economy. In modern day country's are moving away from communism and socialism because of the effects it has on them. They usually end up turning into dictatorships where one leader holds all of the government power. In Marx's theory of capitalism he thinks that the poor will be able to thrive off of each other to create wealth based on there labor that they provide each other. In socialism and the government plays a large role in the economy. The government collects and re distributes wealth. They re distribute the wealth evenly among a body of people. In communism is meant to be a utopian society where the people govern themselves but keep the wealth the same and make sure no body gets ahead of anyone else. These tend to fail because why would you want to be the same as everyone else. Smith had a theory that made a lot of sense in some ways and has a little bit to do with the way Americas economy is run today. His theory was the invisible hand. This explained that is a body of people was left alone this is how they would run there country. IT said that the people will go were the goods are cheaper and better quality. The invisible hand would point the consumers in the direction of the cheaper and better goods. A good example of this in America today is gas stations. When you drive down main street in reading there are many gas stations. They offer varying prices from $3.00 a gallon to $3.45(just an example). Today while I was driving through I saw that the gas stations that had more expensive gas had no people in them because the station next door had cheaper gas and were filled with people. This shows that people are always going to buy the cheaper product.



In my opinion the theory of invisible hand is the best theory. Without government interference people that work harder and do better things will be able to pay for it. Also with competition between businesses it forces the price to go down in order to attract consumers. In a planned economy such as socialism and communism all the people are forced to do and have the same things. This could create a monopoly in a business run by the government making the government drive the price up or down based on how they think it should be. Because everything is regulated by the government there isn't any competitors to drive down price. With the invisible hand you have to work for what you are given and if you work harder and better you will be compensated better,

Life and work in the industrial city

This report dated 1/22/1900 has been provided for the urban planning committees of various cities in England. My name is nick miele and as a mid-level city inspector I trust that you will use the information within to determine appropriate needs in urban planning for your municipals. My report has been through as I have made use of all the sources available to me and have worked to guide you through my own analysis and critical thinking to a full description of the issues facing our cities.

Although there are some things wrong with this there are many right as well. In document c it talks about how triumphant and amazing it is to be working in the mills. Making it seem like they are being given a great opportunity or almost privileged to be working there as mill workers. They say the owners are friends of human kind. Also it says how good they are to the workers there. The tone of document c is very happy and joyful and makes it seem like they are having the time of their life's working in the mills. Also in document e they describe everything as going well and they are so exited to share their mill working adventure

 There are many things wrong with the way these people are treated. In document a it talks about all of the smoke and how the river is black and purple. In document d it says that there are scents of run off and human filth. It also says that they are all very tired and being over worked. These things are depressing to read and really reminds me of the slavery units we did last year

 Overall I think that the impact of these factories was almost all negative. The positive documents seem to good to be true like they are written by the people trying to get workers into the factories. Charles dickens is a very credible writer and he paints a vivid picture of the negative parts of the industrial revolutions factory workers life's

















As a inspector I see that this city is having major problems. It can be quite filthy in some places and could be affecting your workers. These people are treated as animals and are kept in small housing. There is many things you could do to improve their conditions. This is just un acceptable. As an inspector I declare this place un livable and shall be shut down until further notice. This rechid place you call a factory city is discussing. I demand you clean it up as soon as possible or I will be forced to take way all working permits for life. Tank you and have a nice day

Socratic Seminar Reflection

In todays class we had a Socratic seminar. Some of the points I presented were first do these children have a choice to be working in child labor. Some of the story's we have heard have lead me to believe that most of them don't have a choice. For example the children in the video watched seemed to have choice but in reality had to do it for their family's sake. The second point that I brought up was what would be a way to put child labor to an end or at least limit the number of children involved. The third point I brought up was could it have a positive affect on these children.


I think that my group did a very good job of showing evidence of their comments. Also I thought they did a good job of having someone always talking (no awkward silence). I thought the group could have done a little better job of having all of the kids talk apposed to having the same five kids keep talking. Also the group could have done better staying on topic. Sometimes we would stray from the main topic.

Child Labor in the european coal industry

This graph contains many different types of info including what types of people made up the work force. I see that the green(females under 15) has the smallest number of people in every year. this means that they used less younger woman probably for strength purposes. I also see that the blue character (males 15 to 20) is the biggest category every year. I think this means that the work was more physically demanding that they needed these men for. Ultimately this shows that the work force increase massively i assume due to factory production.
