Socratic Seminar Reflection

In todays class we had a Socratic seminar. Some of the points I presented were first do these children have a choice to be working in child labor. Some of the story's we have heard have lead me to believe that most of them don't have a choice. For example the children in the video watched seemed to have choice but in reality had to do it for their family's sake. The second point that I brought up was what would be a way to put child labor to an end or at least limit the number of children involved. The third point I brought up was could it have a positive affect on these children.


I think that my group did a very good job of showing evidence of their comments. Also I thought they did a good job of having someone always talking (no awkward silence). I thought the group could have done a little better job of having all of the kids talk apposed to having the same five kids keep talking. Also the group could have done better staying on topic. Sometimes we would stray from the main topic.

Child Labor in the european coal industry

This graph contains many different types of info including what types of people made up the work force. I see that the green(females under 15) has the smallest number of people in every year. this means that they used less younger woman probably for strength purposes. I also see that the blue character (males 15 to 20) is the biggest category every year. I think this means that the work was more physically demanding that they needed these men for. Ultimately this shows that the work force increase massively i assume due to factory production.
